KDVR in Denver is re porting that Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was arrested on a drunken driving charge last last week..
Moreno was driving his Bentley convertible when he was pulled over on I-25 in Denver for going 70 mph in a construction zone. The posted speed limit was 45 mph.
After being stopped, Moreno was arrested when he performed poorly on a roadside sobriety test after an officer smelled alcohol in the car. The only plus side of this whole matter is that KDVR reported that Denver police said Moreno was "very respectful and polite."
In a statement Monday, the Broncos said, "We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter. Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course."
Personally, I think this could be the end of the line for Moreno in Denver. Drafted in 2009, the injury-prone running back has not lived up to expectations on the field and has spent way too much time off of it. With McGahee’s emergence as the lead back, with decent depth at the position, and with this recent public image black-eye, Knoshon may soon find himself looking for a new place to work. Again, personally, I’d prefer that not to be the case, and I’d like to see Knowshon redeem himself and make his mark next season. However, I’m not the one making the calls, and I doubt the Bronco coaches will take kindly to this sort of press from a guy who hasn’t performed to their expectations.
