Well, it’s finally come together. On Monday the Broncos hired their sixth Defensive Coordinator in six years. Joining Coach Fox’s staff is former New Orleans Saints secondary coach, Dennis Allen. Allen, who is well versed in the 4-3 having worked with both Gary Gibbs and Gregg Williams (who used the formation extensively) appears to be further proof that Coach Fox is looking to move the Broncos back to a 4-3 defensive front in an effort to clean up what is one of the leagues worst defenses.
With any luck, Allen will bring to the Broncos some of the success the Saints have had over the years running their aggressive form of the 4-3, with plenty of blitz packages teamed up with man-to-man coverages in the secondary – something the Broncos got away from over the last season in which they relied more on zone coverages despite the fact that man-to-man plays more to their personnel’s strength.
