Earlier this week, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen accepted the Raiders’ head coaching. Allen’s departure means the Broncos will seek their seventh defensive coordinator in seven seasons – a rather annoying trend if you ask me.
But fear not Bronco fans, it appears John Elway and crew are eager to find a new coordinator quickly. The Duke himself backed this up this week on KDSP radio in Denver today when he said "We’re going to sit down and hopefully get that done rather quickly.”
How quick? well, how’s this: ESPN is reporting that ex-Jaguars coach, Jack Del Rio, will become Denver’s new DC! Del Rio, for those of you unaware, was John Fox‘s DC during the 2002 season in Carolina. He oversaw a defense that made a one-season improvement from 31st to 2nd. If he still has that kind of mojo, imagine what he could do with guys like Doom, Miller, Champ, and, hopefully, Dawkins?

The Broncos who dominated the first half of the game and held on to win in overtime win with a score of 29-23 after Tebow hit the electrifying Demaryius Thomas for an 80 yard TD pass.
The Broncos are 2-0 vs the Patriots in the playoffs. The Broncos defeated the Patriots 27-13 in 2006 and 22-17 in 1987.
Did you know .. ?
The Tom Brady helmed Patriots only have a 2 – 6 record against the Denver Broncos. Over the span of his eight games against Denver, Brady has only completed 57.8% of his passes (177 of 306) , thrown 13 TDs, and 7 interceptions.
Broncos rookie outside linebacker Von Miller finished his rookie season with 64 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Wow! What a game! In what has to be a shock to everyone BUT the Denver faithful, the Broncos went out and manhandled the Pittsburgh Steelers and the number one passing defense during the first half (Yes, that’s right I said it: MANHANDLED!) airing it our to take a 20-6 half time lead. If it weren’t for a few self inflicted wounds this game could have been a blow out. A blow out lead by Tim Tebow and the Denver passing game.
Yes, it wasn’t just the running game (although it worked when they needed it to).
Yes, it’s wasn’t just the defense (although they played great).
Today was about Tim Tebow stepping up and showing he could do it through the air, and he did it. Tebow finished the day completing 11/21 passes for 316 yards, 2 TDs, rushed 10 times for 50 yards, and had one rushing TD. His favorite target? Demaryius Thomas who Tebow connected with four times for 204 yards.
But all the passing came in big chunks today: 30 yard TD to WR Eddie Royal, 40 yard pass to TE Daniels Fells, the four big throws to Demaryius. The Steelers kept daring Tebow to beat them with his arm, and he did.
Yes, today was a great win, but the Broncos have no time to rest. After a short week, the Broncos travel to Foxboro to face the well rested New England Patriots and, now their former head coach, Josh McDaniels.
But in effort to bask in this win just a bit longer, here’s Tebow talking about the game winner:
Good news Tebow supporters: It sounds like The Duke is coming around in regards to Tebow. Courtesy of USAToday.com:
And for all those fans worried that the Broncos‘ boss isn’t completely sold on Tim Tebow and might put the unorthodox quarterback on the trading block this winter, relax. Elway said the city’s new comeback king is here to stay.
…
"Tim Tebow’s not going anywhere," Elway said. "I mean, he’s going to be a Bronco and we’re going to do everything we can and hopefully he’s that guy."
Of course, this doesn’t mean the Broncos won’t be going after some depth at QB in the offseason, but it does mean Tim is in the plans. Personally, I’d like to see the Broncos go after a couple more option-capable QBs that way their doesn’t have to be a “Tebow Offense” and a “Pocket Only Offense” package. While I understand Tebow needs to become a more consistent thrower, I’d hate to have to throw away the other dynamic he brings to the offense with his legs. Anything that makes a defense overthink or overreact in my book is a good thing.
